Endodermis

The endodermis is the layer of cells surrounding the stelar tissue in the plant. Stele is the region of the plant where the vascular bundles are arranged in a specific fashion surrounded by the pericycle and endodermal layers. The endodermis is the layer in which the cells are thickened by a material called Suberin. The thickened side walls of these cells are termed as Casparian strips. The Casparian strips help the endodermal cells to transmit water as well as regulate the water flow. The low concentration of water in endodermal cells will make the water to enter from cortex parenchyma cells into endodermis and further into the xylem.
