Monocotyledons and Dicotyledons – Physical and physiological Differences

The division of angiosperms is classified into monocots and dicots. The monocots and dicots basically vary from each other in four main aspects such as number of cotyledons, type of veins, flower parts and vascular bundle arrangement. Both of them have the basic structure of the plant with similar type of nodes and internodes.
Monocots have one cotyledon, parallel venation in leaves, flower parts as multiples of three and scattered vascular bundles.
Dicots have two cotyledons, reticulate venation in leaves, flower parts as multiples of four or five and vascular bundles arranged in the form of a ring.
The vascular bundles of monocots are mostly arranged at the edges of the stem while in dicots they are arranged as a ring. There is a large central pith region in dicots while in monocots pith is absent.
