There are few organisms that are smaller than bacteria and they are called as viruses. These small particles other than bacteria are actually causing Rabies which was idetified by Loius Pasteur. The tobacco mosaic virus is studied by Dimitri Ivanowsky. The infectious particle is found to be consisting of protein coat and nucleic acid. Since this organism is able to reproduce and mutate but not carryout metabolism, the viruses are considered as non-living. The shape of the protein capsule and the type of nucleic acid that it contains classify the types of viruses.
