The cell wall in the plant cells give rigidity and strength to the cell. The composition of the cell walls vary from species to species. The cell walls are constituted differently in higher plants, in algae, in fungi, and in bacteria. Though its composition differ in various species, its function in all the cases remains same. The shape of the cell and its struture is obtained with the help of the cell wall. The cell is prevented from undergoing osmotic lysis. The cell wall is made up of three layers called as primary and secondary cell wall and middle lamella. Middle lamella constitutes pectin while the primary cell wall constitutes celulose, hemicellulose and carbohydrates. The secondary cell wall constitutes lignin.
