Pollination

Pollination
The movement of the pollen from the anther to the stigma is known as pollination. This process occurs in various methods. The method of pollen transfer through insects is called as entomophily. The method of pollen transfer by wind is called as anemophily. The other types of pollination are carried out by water, humans, birds and bats. There are certain flowers which are involved in self-pollination. Most of the flowers follow the mechanism of pollination using another flower. The pollinating agent can be identified with the help of the flower color. The red colored petals will allow the birds to be attracted while yellow colored petals will attract bees. White petals will attract moths. The petals are observed to appear in reduced size in flowers participating in wind pollination. The grasses and oak plants will have flowers with diminished petals to enable wind pollination.
Ovary
The ovary consists of one or more than one ovule. Each ovule comprises of female gametophyte, which is also called as embryo sac. The plants like cherry have only one ovary that can give rise to two ovules. Among two, only one ovule transforms into a seed.
