Gametophytes

The male gametophyte is formed inside the pollen grain while the female gametophyte is formed inside the ovule. The gametophyte stage in flowering plants is seen in the form of few cells. These cells are found to be depending on the sporophyte phase. This is observed in a reverse manner in non-vascular plants such as bryophytes and mosses.
The male gametophyte of angiosperms has two nuclei which are haploid. They are tube nucleus and germ nucleus. The female gametophyte is present inside the ovule that is situated in the ovary. The ovary is the basal part of the pistil flower. Normally, there are about eight cells present in the female gametophyte. The micropylar end of the ovule consists of one egg flanked by two synergids. The center part of the embryo sac has two polar nuclei. There will be three cells present at the antipodal end of the embryo sac.
